 Hawai‘i P-3 Initiative's Core Strategies

Hawai‘i P-3's core strategies include:

Aligning statewide efforts through collaboration with state agencies responsible for early care and for education - such as Early Learning Council, Hawai‘i State Department of Education, and University of Hawai‘i - and private foundations supporting education - such as Kamehameha Schools and Samuel N. and Mary Castle Foundation. Also, Hawai‘i P-3 will lead development of the state's P-20 statewide longitudinal data system including an early childhood education component.

Engaging community teams through partnerships between early learning programs and elementary schools in demonstration projects organized around school "complex areas" based on a high school feeder pattern.

Replicating successful community strategies by disseminating lessons learned and informing state-level policy  development with grassroots programmatic innovations. The RAND Corporation is conducting formative evaluation of Hawai‘i P-3 demonstration projects.

Training for P-3 teachers and leaders through coordination of teacher training provided by higher education by making community college courses for early childhood education certificates and associates degrees more accessible through on-line offerings. In addition, supporting the development of a post-baccalaureate certificate in early childhood education to help elementary educators increase their knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice.

Engaging families and communities through advocacy for accessible, quality education for all children.
